When Disaster Strikes, We Take Care of Us

Since Helene, Beacon is working across communities to help ensure our waterways and neighbors are all restored.

The storm brought us together in ways more real and tangible than ever before. Connected communities fare better in any weather. Let’s nourish that connection, and build a lasting network of impactful intention and mutual aid.

Restoring Our Hurricane Damaged Lands

In partnership with the South Toe Stewards, Blue Ridge Resource Conservation and Development, the Yancey County Long Term Recovery Group, and others, Beacon is helping to coordinate the cleanup and restoration of hurricane damaged lands across Yancey county and beyond.

Join us Saturdays and Sundays for planting and cleanup events. We are working with care and teaming up with local experts and professionals to ensure that this work is done thoroughly and with the utmost respect for our ecosystem.

We are not only cleaning up our waterways and neighbors lands - we are restoring them with erosion control measures and native plants. Together we can ensure that the forests of Western North Carolina retain their pristine ecological beauty and are taken care of for generations to come.

We need help!

We’re looking for assistance with grant writing, communications management, and recovery tracking. Your work will have a direct impact on local hurricane recovery efforts - help us maximize our efforts to make sure our region is fully restored and our community ties grow stronger!

We can help!

Know of any people or communities not getting the resources they need? What about resources available that could be better accessed, shared, or utilized? We are working to link offerings with needs to ensure that whatever help is needed is available to all.

We’ve done so much and there’s so much more to do. Help us keep the work going, donate now!

Look out for updates about our next Town Square event!

Regarding our last Town Square - “It was a much-needed gathering in our community. The Beacon team successfully brought together many organizations, leaders, and community members in a well-run, comfortable, positive, and informative event. We were able to come together, enjoy some great food, network, and learn about many ways to plug in and contribute to a stronger and more just community. As a long-time activist and volunteer in this area, I'm so thankful Beacon is now here and sharing the work so many organizations are doing, and developing their own important mission. I'm already looking forward to the next gathering!"
